Johnie Ray Moonie was born on November 18, 1955 in Gastonia, North Carolina. He was the eldest son of ten siblings from Johnny LeRoy Moonie and the late Ida Dee Moonie. On Thursday, August 8, 2019 at his residence he departed this life to go home and be with the Lord.
Early in life Johnie received his high school education from Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, North Carolina and also attended Schneider National Trucking School in 1988 to begin his career as a truck driver.
After driving for Wilson Trucking Company for a number of years Johnie finished his career at YRC Trucking Company. He was a faithful member of Words of Truth Ministries under the leadership of Pastor George M. Floyd and First Lady Vanessa Floyd, where he sung on the praise team and acted in a few of the gospel stage productions of the church. He was a loving, kind and devoted husband and the best father and provider we could ever ask for. He loved kids, westerns, his Dallas Cowboys, spades, playing pool and basketball as many in the community know Johnie was regarded as the Lineberger park legend.
Johnie leaves behind to celebrate his life in Christ Jesus his wife Wanda Fair Moonie, their sons; Marcus Moonie (Christa), Anthony Moonie ( Tiara Rasheena), Xavier Moonie (friend Marcus) and O’Darius Moonie, Grandkids; Jayla, Kyland, Kamaya, Kenley, Amarri and Kingston, Sisters; Vanessa M. Floyd (George), Ygerne Moonie, Janalyn Moonie, Caroline Moonie and Tamara Moonie, Brothers; the late Jeffrey Moonie Sr. (Wanda), Anthony Hardin of VA, the late Jonathan Moonie (Cynthia), Jarrett Moonie (Elaine) of CA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
